THE JAPANESE GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT

Image
Long time no blog! How are my Turbonerdz doing? For real, how are you doing? Nigeria has been making us go through a lot, so I can only hope that we are all coping well. Anyhoo, I have really missed you guys. I would love to say I am back, but that is not the case. Nonetheless, I will be popping up on your radar from time to time. Let us begin with an exercise, I want you to type the following on your google search; 1. "how much horsepower does the Nissan R34 GT-R make?" 2. "how much horsepower does the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV make?" 3. "how much horsepower does the Nissan Fairlady Z make?" If you did the google searches as instructed, you would have discovered that all three cars have similar horsepower (hp) figures, with 276 horsepower (+/- 5 horsepower). There are countless other Japanese sport cars that have similar horsepower ratings, all produced around the same time as the three highlighted above. Now, let me ask you a question. Can five different ...

THE BIG MOVE

Image
Sir Lewis Hamilton's move from the Mercedes Formula One (F1) team to Ferrari is no longer news. Almost every automobile channel has given their two cents on the big move. For those who have no idea what I am talking about, here is a brief summary. Sir Lewis Hamilton is in my books the Greatest Formula One driver ever as he has 7 Formula 1 World Championships, but some school of thoughts do not agree with my GOAT, as he shares this title with Michael Schumacher, who also has 7 World Champions to his name. THE BIG MOVE Hamilton was supposed to win his 8th World Championship in the 2020/2021 Season, which would have solidified his mark as the GOAT of F1, but he lost the title to Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing in a technicality that most found very controversial. Since loosing the opportunity to win his 8th World Championship, Hamilton has seriously been struggling at Mercedes. There were a lot of rule changes to the specifications of the Formula One cars in favor of Red Bull racing...

The Perfect Family Vehicle for a Gearhead

Image
2024 Audi RS6 Avant Being a gearhead with a wife and kids, comes with a dilemma, because most proper sport cars are either only two seater vehicles or two door coupes with back seats that are non-existent, as they can't really fit passengers. The Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) brought about a solution to this problem of having to choose between ones car and his/her family, as these comfortable 5/8 seater vehicles have become almost as fast as some proper sport cars. Nonetheless, most SUVs are too big and bulky to thrash around a race track. Spot the difference between a wagon (below in grey) and a sedan (above in blue) Then came along the chosen one, the King Arthur of vehicles who pulled the sword out of the stone. This certain King goes by the name, Audi RS6 Avant. The Audi RS6 Avant is a wagon, meaning it is like a stretched out sedan with a long and spacious boot space. Wagons in general combine the best of both words, as they are small and have a low center of gravity like sedans...

Saturation of The Electric Vehicle (EV) Market

Image
First off, I want to make a sincere apology to my Turbo-Nerdz for the radio silence over the past few weeks. I took a break because of my examinations which I have completed and I still did not post anything on here, so please forgive me. I wouldn't say I have been experiencing writers block, it is more like I do not know the next step or move to take for TurboNerdz and it has been weighing down on me. On this note, I am very open to suggestions on how to take TurboNerdz to the next level. You can message me personally on any of the social media platforms in my profile or make these suggestions in the comments section, thank you my Turbo-Nerdz. A Xiaomi Vehicle? According to the Oxford dictionary, saturation means "to a very full extent, especially beyond the point regarded as necessary or desirable". I love this particular definition of saturation because that is exactly what is happening to the electric vehicle scene. Every company, automobile or not, now has or is work...

Why are these three cars most popular among Nigerian bachelors?

Image
With no further ado, I introduce to you the three vehicles that are most popular among bachelors in Nigeria and they are the 2006-2012 Toyota Camry, 2006-2012 Lexus IS and 2006-2014 Mercedes Benz C-Class. 2006-2012 Toyota Camry 2006-2012 Lexus IS 2006-2014 Mercedes Benz C-Class The three cars pictured above need no further introduction, as almost every reader has seen these cars with their very own eyes, at least once before. So, to the question before us, why are these cars usually the first choice for a Bachelor? 1. AFFORDABILITY AND FAIRLY CHEAP MAINTENANCE If you have paid attention so far, you would have realized that these three vehicles are not so new. All three vehicles began production in 2006 and also ended production around the same time in 2012/2014. This means that these cars are about 11-17 years old, which makes them not so expensive to obtain. All three cars are also in the same price range, as they can be purchased with about 3-5 million naira. With such a price tag, i...

Everything is Getting Turbo'd!!! 😭😭😭

Image
Since the inception of this blog, I have always concluded with the words, "always remember to Turbo that engine" and it seems these car companies have been listening, because almost all of them have been shifting from naturally aspirated vehicles to forced induction, with turbos being the go to. I know that I should be happy, as I have always preached the gospel of "turbocharging" engines, but it is getting out of hand and these car companies are not doing so on their own accord. To serve as a recap, a turbo is a forced induction device that is used to increase oxygen capacity in an internal combustion engine, to enhance better fuel combustion and hence, produce more power. Japanese cars have always been synonymous with turbos, unlike their European and American counterparts who believed in naturally aspirated V8's, V10's and the spice of them all, Ferrari V12's. The Japanese believe in efficiency, which is making the most from the little they have, so t...

LOVE AT FIRST VISIT

Image
I just completed my 8 weeks of Community Medicine posting and all I can say is, never again! Unfortunately, I am just bluffing, because I will still rotate through that department of trials and tribulations next year. The posting might have been stressful and physically tasking, but I really enjoyed the field trips. One field trip in particular stood out to me and it was love at first visit. This particular field trip was to the Lutonian Technology Limited, an automobile technology support company. A friend of mine first told me about Lutonian last year, while she was in her community medicine posting. She explained to me how she had such an amazing time at the facility, even though she was not a car person, talk more of me who is a car enthusiast. Since that day, I have looked forward to this posting,  just for the Lutonian visit and guess what guys? I almost missed the bus on that faithful morning. My group representative had to stall the driver and I am so grateful to him for th...
