JDM VS MUSCLE

Image
About two weeks ago, I posted about my favorite car, the Nissan GT-R and I asked people about their favorite cars as well. From the replies I got, I realized that most of the favorite car picks fell mainly into two categories, the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) cars and the Muscle cars. If you are familiar with the Fast and Furious franchise, you would have realized that it was also loosely based on this same competition between these two car following's, at least before The Rock and Jason Statham turned our favorite car series into a guns and fist fight series. Dominic Toretto known as Dom obviously represented the Muscle car community as he was seen riding a Dodge Charger while Paul Walker known as Brian O'Conner represented the JDM Community in his Toyota Supra and later a Nissan R34 GT-R. Dom on the left in a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and Brian on the right in a 1994 Toyota Supra MK4     Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) refers to Japans home market for vehicles and ve...

A NEW SUV FROM TOYOTA?

Image
I was randomly scrolling through one of my car forums and stumbled upon a comment, something about a new SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) or in layman terms, a new "jeep" from Toyota. Knowing fully well that Toyota already offers about 9 SUV's in their lineup, I was very interested in knowing what Toyota was up to. The sexy new SUV from Toyota! Refer back to Toyota already having 9 SUV's in their lineup, which includes the RAV4, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Prado, Fortuner, Venza, C-HR, 4Runner and Sequoia. Before writing this article, I didn’t even notice Toyota had these much SUV's. But why not? The SUV business is probably the most lucrative for car companies right now. I explained the reason for this in a previous episode called The SUV Craze, please do well to check it out. Toyota's SUV Lineup Back to the topic at hand, the new SUV from Toyota bears the name tag Corolla and is called the Toyota Corolla Cross. The association of the new SUV with the Corolla name, ...

A NISSAN HAS MY HEART

Image
Being a 'Certified Car Lover Boy', I usually get the question, what is your favorite car? The words Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche are the expected response, but I put up a funny looking grin and say “The Nissan …”. Before completing my statement, I realize the once enthusiastic face of the person asking has become somewhat puzzled; like did he just say Nissan? Well, yes I did and to complete that statement, my favorite car is The Nissan G-TR. Unlike the Nissans of the last decade with cheap plastic interior and poor build quality, Nissan used to be a reputable car company back in the 90’s. Beginning with the Skyline which is now the G-TR, to the Nissan Silvia and the Nissan Z's. These were all budget friendly sport cars that actually gave the big dogs like Ferrari a run for their money. For me the GT-R ( Gran Turismo Racer)  stood out and I think I love it because of it's pedigree. It was famously nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ because it devoured any and everything in...

IVM - THE PRIDE OF AFRICAN ROADS

Image
"A copy of a Chinese copy of a G-Wagon with a Mitsubishi Engine", were the exact words used by James Pumphrey of Donut Media, to describe our so-called "Pride of African Roads", the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company. When I heard him say this, I laughed uncontrollably because he was not far from the truth. If you have ever seen the Innoson G80, the next thing that comes to mind is, what sort of a low budget G-Wagon is this? Tell me this doesn't look like a low budget G-Wagon? Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (commonly shortened to IVM) is a Nigerian automobile manufacturer headquartered in Nnewi, Anambra, Nigeria. It was founded by Chief Innocent Chukwuma Nwala. Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing is nicknamed Pride Of African Roads. I am always pro locally made products, but my issue with Innoson is, are their cars really locally produced? According to the company, 70% of its car parts are produced locally, while the rest is sourced from Japan, China, and ...

The Apocalypse of the Combustion Engine!

Image
T he future of the combustion engine as we know it, is close to extinction and it is all thanks to the so-called future of the automotive world, electric vehicles! For one, I am not ready for that future. If by any means I could go back in time, I would probably stop the birthing of Elon Musk, because he is the cause of all this shenanigan (inserts crying emoji). I know this sounds harsh but it hurts me to think that my grandson may never have the opportunity to hear the sound of a real combustion engine. How his ear ossicles may never get to experience the reverberation coming from a V8 engine cruising down the street.  Unlike popular belief, Tesla was not founded by Elon Musk. Tesla was incorporated in July 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning as Tesla Motors. In February 2004, via a $6.5 million investment, Elon Musk became the largest shareholder of the company. He has served as CEO since 2008. Elon Musk merely bought the idea of two engineers and in all honesty, made i...

The SUV Craze

Image
A n SUV is what a layman in Nigerian would refer to as a "Jeep". SUV stands for Sport Utility Vehicle. A sport utility vehicle or SUV is a car classification that combines the elements of a road-going passenger car with features from off-road vehicles, such as raised ground clearance and four-wheel drive. To bring it down, SUV refers to a car that is big and powerful enough to haul a bunch of stuff in the trunk, while doing it's job in a sleek fashion by being quick on the road. Common examples of SUV's include the Toyota Highlander, Lexus RX350, Ford Edge, Honda CR-V, among others. In the past decade, the SUV has been the number one pick for a family vehicle, especially for families that are not so large. Common Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV's) Anyhoo, this episode is not centered on the common SUV's seen every day on the road. It is rather referring to the SUV craze among the big dogs of the automotive world, the so-called luxury and high-performa...

LET'S BEGIN

Cars are just like women, beautiful! Y ou hear people say, I'm not a car person and I really don't care what I drive. I just need something to take me from point A to point B. Well, I consider such people to be the problems we have in this world, because the truth is such a person would most likely stare in awe if a really nice car drives by. My mom would always complain whenever my Dad gets a new car. She would say nothing was wrong with the old one and it was a waste of money, but in a few weeks she would have fallen in love with the new car. Next thing, she is insisting on using the new car more often and my Dad does not get to enjoy his new baby. What an irony but a whole lot of you 'non car' people are in this category. A Car Meet; the only meeting I want to be at. In essence, I'm just trying to say that not everyone is a "turbo nerd", by this I mean not everyone is interested in the in-depth knowledge of how much horsepower a car makes or what driv...
