A NEW SUV FROM TOYOTA?

I was randomly scrolling through one of my car forums and stumbled upon a comment, something about a new SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) or in layman terms, a new "jeep" from Toyota. Knowing fully well that Toyota already offers about 9 SUV's in their lineup, I was very interested in knowing what Toyota was up to.

The sexy new SUV from Toyota!

Refer back to Toyota already having 9 SUV's in their lineup, which includes the RAV4, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Prado, Fortuner, Venza, C-HR, 4Runner and Sequoia. Before writing this article, I didn’t even notice Toyota had these much SUV's. But why not? The SUV business is probably the most lucrative for car companies right now. I explained the reason for this in a previous episode called The SUV Craze, please do well to check it out.

Toyota's SUV Lineup

Back to the topic at hand, the new SUV from Toyota bears the name tag Corolla and is called the Toyota Corolla Cross. The association of the new SUV with the Corolla name, is a deliberate and fantastic selling point strategy as Corollas are considered to be the most reliable cars on planet earth. Toyota is indirectly guaranteeing that the Corolla SUV will be just as reliable as it's predecessor. 

However, why is there a need for a Corolla SUV? Lately, Corolla’s are getting a sportier look and as a result, losing ground clearance. My Dad got a 2015 Corolla a while back and it is a wonderful car to drive but if you drive too quickly on a dirt road, you could just end up with your bumper in the trunk. The car is so low and recent models are even closer to the ground. So the most reasonable thing for Toyota to do is to give the consumers a choice between sporty and reliable being the normal Sedan Corolla or boring and reliable being the SUV.

The Toyota Corolla Cross

The Toyota Corolla Cross has a starting price of $22,445. This is very cheap compared to other SUV’s in the Toyota lineup, which keeps up the culture of Corolla’s being the cheapest of the lot. I personally think the Toyota Corolla Cross is going to do well in the market and might just outrank the Toyota RAV4 as the best selling Toyota SUV.

Nice!!! One reason Toyota would always be in the game is innovation. Let me check your last blog post if you made a distinction between SUVs & Crossovers

Omo! I really don't understand what Toyota has with SUV's. I guess it's because most of their consumers are in Africa, where high ground clearance vehicles are needed. 🤷🏾‍♂️

A n SUV is what a layman in Nigerian would refer to as a "Jeep". SUV stands for Sport Utility Vehicle. A sport utility vehicle or SUV is a car classification that combines the elements of a road-going passenger car with features from off-road vehicles, such as raised ground clearance and four-wheel drive.
