LOVE AT FIRST VISIT
I just completed my 8 weeks of Community Medicine posting and all I can say is, never again! Unfortunately, I am just bluffing, because I will still rotate through that department of trials and tribulations next year. The posting might have been stressful and physically tasking, but I really enjoyed the field trips. One field trip in particular stood out to me and it was love at first visit. This particular field trip was to the Lutonian Technology Limited, an automobile technology support company.
A friend of mine first told me about Lutonian last year, while she was in her community medicine posting. She explained to me how she had such an amazing time at the facility, even though she was not a car person, talk more of me who is a car enthusiast. Since that day, I have looked forward to this posting, just for the Lutonian visit and guess what guys? I almost missed the bus on that faithful morning. My group representative had to stall the driver and I am so grateful to him for that, because what a wealth of experience I would have missed out on.
How I ran to make the bus 😂 |
Lutonian Technology Limited was established by Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdurauf in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. Alhaji Abdulsalam lived and worked for a good number of years in Luton, hence the name Lutonian for his company. He is a retired automotive technician, who decided not to while away his retirement years. So, he decided to return to Nigeria, specifically Ogbomosho, the town were he grew up, to begin an automotive repair shop. Most people would expect him to set up an automotive company in the busier states surrounding Ogbomosho, like Ibadan, Ilorin, Oshogbo or even Lagos, but he decided to bring his company home.

When asked why Alhaji Abdulsalam located his automotive company here in Ogbomosho, he explained to us how he wanted to bring his years of experience back to his home town, so that he can pass it on to the younger generation, thereby keeping such knowledge in circulation for eternity. He further expanded on how Lutonian, is his own way of giving back to the community, as they are barely making any profits, not withstanding the top notch service being rendered. According to him, Lutonian is not a money making venture, to him it is merely a gift to the good people of Ogbomosho.
Alhaji Abdulsalam gave us a tour around his facility despite his busy schedule and he took his time to explain every detail. His wealth of knowledge on automobiles was simply amazing. At first I was very inquisitive, asking a lot of questions, but then I realized that I should shut up and just listen to a man who has lived and breath Automobiles, which is exactly what I did. I gained a lot from him in the little time I had and it is a day that is ingrained in my memory.
Being at Lutonian was a surreal experience for me. I felt at home and I saw myself in Alhaji Abdulsalam, retiring into the automotive scenery at the end of my career. For a brief moment, I regretted studying medicine, because I wanted to be just like him. Having to work with cars for the rest of my life is a good life to me and I hope that God aligns my life in such a way that I get to live that dream. Lest I forget, Alhaji Abdulsalam is a such a huge Porsche fan. It was so evident, as he has so many Porsche models in his office space. For a while now, I have found myself also falling in love with Porsche, especially the Porsche 911 Turbo S.
