I do not know if it is Nigerian jazz or German Voodoo, but the people of Nigeria are so in love with the Mercedes Benz. Benz cars are generally aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and luxurious, nevertheless there is always room for improvement and this comes in the shape and form of something called a Maybach. The Mercedes Benz auto-tuner Maybach is simply the epitome of luxury and exclusivity.

Just a recap, Mercedes has a few tuners and they include Brabus, AMG, Mansory, Maybach among others. Brabus and AMG focus more on performance but for Mansory and Maybach, it is all about making a Benz look even sexier and Maybach wins in that respect.

The original Maybach company was founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl Maybach. In 1960, Maybach was then acquired by Daimler-Benz, making it a sub-brand of Mercedes Benz. Maybach is specifically saddled with the task of producing luxury tuned models of otherwise normal Mercedes Benz SUV's as well as the S-Class line up. The Maybach now competes with the big boys like Rolce Royce, Bentley and Range Rover in the luxury race. Our very own 001 by the name Davido, purchased a Maybach recently and it made headlines!

The request was specific for a 2023 model, so let's do justice to that;

1. PRICE

A base Maybach starts at about 200,000$ which in Naira is like 200 million naira with the current exchange rate and the Virgil Abloh type that Davido bought is about 250,000$. You see say Davido money long from Lagos reach Abuja. First thing you should know is that the Maybach does not come cheap. You can also customize your Maybach as you like, from the leather of the interior, to the paint color for the body and wheels but the more you customize, the more the money.

2. POWER

To power this massively expensive car is a handcrafted 6.0 liter, V12 bi-turbo engine! Any car guy knows that this a serious engine, the type of engine that F1 cars ran back in the 90's. This means that even though this car is built for one to sit in the back while a driver sails you through the streets of Los Angeles, it can still outrun the Marlians if they chase you down in Lagos Island. This engine has 621 horse power and can go from 0 - 60 in 4.5 seconds. Extremely impressive for a car that weighs quite a lot. A V12 is definitely not so fuel efficient but if you can afford a Maybach, fuel price is not your problem at all.

3. COMFORT

The Maybach has an adaptive, self-leveling 4-wheel multilink with airmatic. What all that big grammar means is that no matter the bump you pass through in Ikorodu, you will barely ever feel it riding in a Maybach. The suspension adjusts itself to different terrains and also predicts bumps before reaching it, in order to adjust the car accordingly. Comfort, luxury, style and beauty are the Maybach's signature, so it gets a 9.5/10 in this aspect. The Maybach is also very spacious but I can not call it a family car. You do not buy a Maybach to have some kids jumping around or staining your expensive leather seat with ice-cream, that is for Sienna's.

Maybach Suspension Set-up

It is important to note that the Maybach is not only a sedan. There are also SUV Maybach vehicles which are luxury versions of the GLE and GLS models. The Maybach SUV's have this special feature called crab crawl or bouncing mode which uses the car's suspension to bounce the SUV up and down to get it out of sticky off-roading situations. Nonetheless, no one takes their Maybach off-roading, celebrities just use it to show off. There are videos on Youtube to show you the bouncing mode.

If I was to pick between a Maybach, Bentley or Rolce Royce, I would definitely pick the Nissan R34 GT-R in midnight purple with gold rims (putting this out there in case God lays it in your heart to gift me my dream car 🥹) but for real, the Maybach measures up to the Rolce Royce and Bentley, it just depends on preference.
