Tuners That Build Different

I know that we are supposed to be discussing Formula One (F1) for the coming weeks, but I felt it was becoming boring and quite repetitive. We will definitely return to F1 but I believe we should switch things up for the new month. So, how are my Turbonerdz' doing? I hope y'all are doing great and if you aren't, I want you to know that things will eventually get better. From the topic of discussion, we already know where this weeks episode is headed. This is not the first time we are talking about auto tuners, as we have covered Mercedes Benz tuners in a previous episode and if you missed it, I would recommend you read that before diving into this weeks episode.

Fun Fact: Once a car is tuned, it is no longer considered stock

The word "tune" means "to adjust" or "to change". In this context, auto tuning involves taking out stock parts of a car and replacing them with after market parts. Tuning could be for power, to make a car go faster or just for aesthetics, in order to make a car look cooler. There are a lot of tuners in the automobile industry but four in particular occupy the four chambers of my beating heart!

1. LIBERTY WALK

Liberty Walk Tuned Ferrari F40

Liberty Walk was established by Wataru Kato when he was 26 years old and his tuner company is considered one of the most controversial on planet earth, but not for the wrong reasons as they are only considered controversial because of what they do to so called collector cars. Let me put things in perspective, the car seen above is a Ferrari F40 and it is worth nothing less than 2 million dollars. This is the type of car people keep in garages and are never driven but Mr. Waturu Kato modifies these cars into beautiful piece of art. Ferrari as a company and it's enthusiast's are always very conservative, believing Ferrari's should not be tampered with and this is why Liberty Walk is hated by the Ferrari purists.

Liberty Walk specializes in cutting up cars and adding huge fender flares to fit equally large and wide tires with a bit of negative camber giving it that “slammed” stance. The cars are also drastically lowered, this is most likely a hint from the “Bōsōzoku” cars of Japan. The cars also incorporate big spoilers that serve more of a fashion statement than for functionality. In entirety, these cars are a beauty to behold. I have so much respect for liberty walk and I always look forward to their projects.

2. MINES'S (BUILT BY LEGENDS)

Mines Tuned Nissan R34 GT-R

By now my Turbonerdz' know that I am a sucker for Nissan GT-R's. Straight up, my dream car is an R34 GT-R in midnight purple with custom gold rims. Mine's was founded in 1985 by Michizo Niikura and their build's are based off the R32, R33 and R34 Skyline platforms. One of my earlier blogpost's titled ''A Nissan has my heart'' contains all you need to know about the Nissan GT-R, so do well to check that out. My Idol, Paul Walker visited Mine's shortly before his untimely death and he was so pleased with their cars.

Japanese sport cars like the Supra and GT-R's are known to handle a ton of power upgrade, that is why other tuners are usually hell bent on extracting all of that power from these cars. GT-R tunes with a thousand plus horsepower are not uncommon but these upgrades make the cars no longer road friendly. The cars become perfect for race day but can barely be used as daily drivers. Mine's changes this narrative by converting the GT-R's into stable and more reliable daily drivers by tweaking the suspension set-up to make it more comfortable. They also tweak the engines to make a little bit more power but overall the cars are not turned into unstable monsters. A Mine's tuned R34 GT-R is definitely on my bucket list.

3. RWB

RWB Tuned Porsche

Just like Liberty Walk, a lot of Porsche enthusiast's detest RWB because they modify classic Porsche's. RWB which stands for RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF is a Porsche tuner located in Japan. RWB was founded by Akira Nakai in the 1990's. I have obviously never seen Mr. Akira Nakai in person but he seems like such a cool person in interviews. He is so rich and famous for his builds but it has not changed him a bit. He usually host's racing competitions in which he invites friends and fellow car enthusiast's to race his RWB built Porsches.

RWB has a very simple formula similar to that of Liberty Walk. It involves cutting up Porche's and adding huge fenders to encompass massive wheels with usually neutral or a little bit of negative camber, a gigantic spoiler and extravagant colors to match the wild builds. Each RWB build is also given a special name that is installed on the sides of the car. RWB converts pretty Porsche's into wide body beauties and this is why RWB has such a huge following. Most enthusiast's buy classic Porches in order to hide them away, so as to increase their profit on resale but RWB ensures these cars are used to their full potential.

4. MANSORY

Mansory Tuned Mercedes G Wagon

A lot of people especially the Ladies tend to like Mansory builds because they are usually extravagantly painted or wrapped. The interiors are not left out, as they are usually embroidered with shouty colors. I remember some of my female course mates showing me a particular Mansory build with a full-on pink interior and most of them liked it, even those who objected still liked other colorful builds like the black and purple Mansory G Wagon.

Mansory Tuned Lamborghini Urus

Mansory is a luxury car modification firm based in Brand, Germany. The company was founded in 1989 by Iranian-British tuner Kourosh Mansory. Mansory is not only interested in aesthetics as they also do some engine tweaks in order to create extra power from the already powerful engines in the cars that they tune.

Tuned BMW’s

If you noticed, the first three tuners were Japanese, I guess this reiterates the fact that when it comes to tuning, the Japanese are at the top of the food chain. There are a lot more tuners in the automobile industry but these four stand out to me because they create masterpiece from cars that are already deemed perfect.

Thank you for reading and always remember to Turbo that engine!
