MERCEDES BENZ TUNERS

Mercedes Benz is probably the most popular car brand among the big boys in Nigeria. Mercedes vehicles are fast, luxurious, stable and most importantly, aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Personally, I am a BMW fan boy but I must admit that Mercedes are generally more good looking than Beamers. Plus, the ladies prefer Benz boys to Beamer boys.

Back to the topic at hand, what or who is a car tuner?

According to Wikipedia, car tuning is the modification of a car to optimize it for a different set of performance requirements from those it was originally designed to meet. Simply put, a tuner is a car with many parts changed so the car can go very fast. The word "tune" here means "to adjust" or "to change". Apart from speed, tuners can adjust a cars suspension for drifting or its's fuel efficiency for endurance race. Some tunes could even be for better car looks or a better sound system, it just involves an upgrade to the car.

Now that we understand what it means to tune, you realize that it is something that can be performed by oneself with help from professionals or even YouTube videos, but we are not talking about individual tuning in this episode. Instead, we are talking about certified car companies that specialize in tuning already produced cars. I picked Mercedes Benz to serve as our basis for discussion because their tuners are not alien to most of us and they include;

1. BRABUS

Mercedes Brabus Logo

Whenever you see a Benz with a big black and white B instead of the normal three pointed star logo, you know that you are looking at a Brabus. The company name was derived from the first three characters of the founders' surnames (Brackmann, Buschmann). Brabus is a subsidiary of the Mercedes-Benz Group since the 1990s. Brabus' primary focus is to achieve maximum car performance through the increase of horsepower and speed.

Customers can either buy cars from Brabus or send in their cars to be customized. Brabus also offers cosmetic modifications such as body kits for better aerodynamics. In Nigeria, I have noticed the Brabus badge is more commonly seen in the G-series, that is the Brabus G-Wagon.

2. AMG

Mercedes AMG Logo

Unlike the Brabus vehicles, their AMG counterparts usually keep the three pointed star logo but you would usually see the AMG logo on the sides of the car or at the rear. The letters "AMG" stand for Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach. Aufrecht and Melcher were the original founders of AMG and Großaspach was Aufrecht's birth place. AMG is definitely the biggest tuner of Mercedes Benz as there is literally an AMG variant of every normal Mercedes car produced. More so, AMG is directly involved in the production of  Mercedes F1 cars.

AMG models typically have more aggressive looks, better performance, better handling, better stability and more carbon fiber than their regular Mercedes-Benz counterparts. AMG models are typically the most expensive and highest-performing variant of each Mercedes-Benz class. Mercedes  AMG models are quite common in Nigeria, so when next you see a Benz, just look behind for an AMG logo to determine if it is a normal Benz or an AMG tuned Benz.

3. MAYBACH

Mercedes Maybach Logo

For the gearheads in the house, you know that Maybach and Luxury are two words that go together like amala and ewedu. The Maybach logo is like a combination of  big wide M and a tall thin M. If you are a fan of DJ Khaled you would know that he loves Maybachs and likes using them in his music videos. Maybach is a German luxury car brand that exists today as a part of Mercedes-Benz. Maybach is specifically saddled with the task of producing luxury tuned models of Mercedes Benz SUV's as well as the S-Class line up.

I am personally a fan of Maybach because they look so good. I have a classmate who rates celebrity outfits for events and I bet she would give the Maybach upwards of 8 stars because they always look like a million bucks. Maybach recently started this trend of mixing colors while painting their cars and I absolutely love it. If you do too, holla in the comments.

Mansory Tuned G-Wagon

Apart from the three Benz tuners discussed, there are other tuners of Mercedes such as Mansory, Carlsson, Hamann Motorsport, among others but I have decided to stick with the three discussed because they are the most common and certified tuners of Mercedes Benz. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing.

Thank you for reading and always remember to Turbo that engine!
