Accepting the Inevitable Future of the Automotive World

On most days I feel like a dinosaur, because in an automotive world becoming increasingly populated by self driving electric vehicles, I see no place in it. It feels like an asteroid hit the earth, bringing combustion engines, turbo chargers, superchargers and manual transmissions to near extinction. You go on the internet and all you see are so called acclaimed innovations in the automotive world. These innovations merely entail vehicles that do not need a driver, some of these vehicles do not even have steering wheels. To non gear heads, this would be a big relief as they can move from point A to B without lifting a finger, but to a proper gear head, this is a nightmare because these innovations only detach us from our babies (vehicles).

The future of the automotive world is electric, which means I must come to terms with this fact or remain a Dinosaur in todays Information Age. Hence, the discussion of today will dwell on 3 fully electric vehicles that have managed to put a smile on my face.

1. THE RIMAC NEVERA

Rimac Nevera

One fact I must admit is that electric vehicles are quick! With electric vehicles, there is no need for any form of combustion. The electric motors spin at incredible speed, propelling the wheels with immediate effect, thereby preventing any lag. This is the reason why electric vehicles have blistering acceleration times (0-60's).

The Rimac Nevera for example produces 1,914hp from four Rimac-designed electric motors, which propel the hypercar from 0-60 mph in just 1.85 seconds, and to 100mph in 4.3 seconds. For those who do not drive, you might not appreciate these numbers but for a driver, you understand what it means to step on the accelerator and hit 100mph in less than five seconds. The Nevera has a top speed of 256mph but those miles per hour don't come cheap, as the Nevera cost upwards of 2 million dollars and only 150 will be made. Na to go buy black airforce 1, because I would have to rob Dangote and Otedola to afford one.

2. THE RIVIAN TRUCK

Rivian R1T Electric Pickup Truck

I am personally a truck guy, so it is a no brainer that I am absolutely in love with the Rivian truck. Rivian absolutely stormed the car market because they did something different. While other car companies were competing for the position of best electric sedan and SUV, they quietly built an all electric pickup becoming the only electric truck producers and making a lot of money in the process.

The most interesting thing about the Rivian is that as a truck you would expect it to be slow but you guessed wrong! The 2022 Rivian R1T electric pickup truck has a 0-60 mph acceleration time of only 3.0 seconds. If you think 3.0 secs is nothing, try hitting 60mph in less than 5 seconds in your fathers hilux. Dey Play!!!

3. THE LUCID AIR

Lucid Air

I remember telling one of my guys about this car and he said the name sounded like an Air Freshener, lol. Well, he might have thrown a diss at the Lucid Air but in perspective, this car is a breath of fresh air from the Tesla. In my opinion, the Tesla is just an overhyped car with a lot of flaws and the Lucid Air makes up for most of those Tesla flaws.

The Lucid Air is the product of a former Tesla Engineer who took all that he learned from Tesla, improved on it and gave us this beauty of an electric sedan. Just like the the other two vehicles, the Lucid Air is an equally quick vehicle. It is mainly built for luxury and comfort but when you step on it, all 4 motors produce 1111hp propelling it from 0-60 in 2.6seconds. Comfort, Luxury and Speed in one, show me a better electric sedan and don't even think about mentioning that car that begins with a T.

Electric vehicles are taking over and there is absolutely nothing that can be done. I can only hope that more interesting electric vehicles like the ones mentioned above are produced. Thank you for reading and always remember to Turbo that engine.

As much as I understand the hatred for Tesla, it is important to recognise that they made way for most mainstream electric vehicles today. Its no mean feat. Besides, what's life without competition? Well done for a piece well written. Still your opinion though

Lucid air took the best features of Tesla and made it better. Definitely a nice air but I kind of fill the design went too far. Also, it is expensive!!
Very true my Oga. Tesla made electric vehicles what they are today; Fun, quick and good looking machines, this I must admit. If you even ask me why I don't like Tesla, I don't have a tangible reason πŸ˜‚ I think it's because of their annoying owners who are always shading combustion engines plus those their annoying number plates! πŸ€§πŸ˜‚
True but if you are not purchasing a regular electric vehicle, the luxurious ones always run up the numbers πŸ’€

Nice effort put in. These cars are however yet to undergo what may be the greatest revolution of all times.
